A search for a suspect is underway after an early-morning, officer-involved shooting in east Birmingham.
Few details have been released, but no officers have been injured. Police are believed to have encountered a suspect wanted in a crime in another city and shots were fired. The ordeal began about 4:45 a.m. Saturday.
The suspect fled but blood found at the scene indicated the suspect had been wounded. The suspect is believed to be in the area of Crestwood Boulevard and Montevallo Road.
Police have set up a command post in the Jack’s parking lot in Irondale. Jefferson County’s Star 1 helicopter is circling a perimeter around Crestwood Plaza and the 5 Points East shopping plaza.
