PIMA – The search for a missing 4-year-old girl who was swept away by floodwaters in Cottonwood Wash on Thursday night continued Friday morning as numerous volunteers walked the area or utilized off-road vehicles.
A family was reportedly in their suburban when the vehicle was overtaken by floodwaters from Cottonwood Wash on Thursday night. Authorities were dispatched to the wash at about 9:22 p.m. and rescued five of six occupants from the top of the vehicle, however, a 4-year-old girl was swept away.
After search efforts were suspended late that night, they resumed early Friday morning with first light. Numerous volunteers joined in the search up and down Cottonwood Wash and along the Gila River.
Airplanes and helicopters continued to assist with the search Friday.
A Facebook group called “Search for 4yr Maci” was created Friday morning to help volunteers organize their efforts. A check-in station was placed at Pima Town Hall.
