A man wanted on a federal warrant was not located in south Roswell on Wednesday evening in spite of efforts by federal and local law enforcement officials.

The Roswell Police Department and its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team assisted federal law enforcement Wednesday at about 6 p.m. as they converged on a house in the 100 block of East Church Street, said spokesman Todd Wildermuth.

“We had received some information that a wanted fugitive might be at that residence,” he said.

He said the SWAT team is called to assist if the fugitive is considered violent. He said law enforcement at the Church Street residence called out, getting no response, and then entered the house but did not find anyone.

“We didn’t get him, but it was information that we had to check out,” Wildermuth said.

He explained that the warrant was issued by federal agents so he could not release the name of the suspect or the charges.

“He still has that federal warrant out there, so we will work with federal agents to try to track him down,” he said.

The Las Cruces office of the New Mexico District of the U.S. Marshal’s Service did not respond to a phone message by press time.
