Google keeps up on what's trending and what people are looking for over the course of time, and this allows us to look back and see what people were interested then, as well as what's on the mind of people right now.
As of April 2020, the top-searched for term in the United States was "Facebook," followed by "YouTube" and "Amazon." Worldwide it looks slightly different, with "YouTube" taking the top spot, followed by "Facebook" and "Gmail."
Below are breakdowns for both the U.S. trends and worldwide.

The graphic (below) breaks down search trends by each state for the last two years, showing that people are mainly concerned with entertainment and celebrities. There are some months with state-specific searches that will dominate in some areas, as well as political happenings and current events.

In March and April 2020, trends nationwide pointed to the coronavirus as the top-searched term, while George Floyd and Black Lives Matter was top in almost every state in June.
This week, to give another example, folks are looking for information about a second stimulus check, coronavirus symptoms, and celebrity news.
It's always insightful to see what other people in our own country and worldwide, as it reminds us of social issues, events, and ideas that have transpired over the last few years.
