“It’s a mix of emotions because even though we look very happy in this picture, I know that our family is facing a lot of issues at that time, and it was right before he was taken away,” Kailyn Bigby said.
For Bigby and her sister Sarah, these photos are all they have left of their brother Jordan.
“It’s almost like grief, it comes in waves. You’ll hear a song or smell something or be in a moment that will remind me of him and it will come back to me just how much I miss him,” Bigby said.
Jordan was taken into foster care when he was eight years old.
The sisters were teens at the time, and say their mother was dealing with mental health issues.
That was the last they heard from their brother, and they’ve spend the last ten years trying to find him.
“Countless calls, countless emails, countless voice messages. Since he is a minor and because of the laws and policies, they aren’t able to give us much information,” said Bigby.
Jordan, whose last name was Levesque at the time, would have turned 18 last month, meaning he is now legally an adult.
And these women hope this will be their opportunity to reconnect.
“It’s hard to imagine what he’s like now. You lie awake at night and wonder how his life went on, and if he was put into a good home, if he was given love and care, what his dreams are, what he is like now as an adult,” said Bigby.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case it comes down to just a few that this want their brother to know.
“We’re right here and we love you,” the sisters said.
