Missing boater identified, search continues on Lake Iamonia - WCTV

LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has identified the boater who went missing on Lake Iamonia as 57-year-old Huey Calhoun.

Authorities searched Lake Iamonia for the man overnight. The search continued Thursday, and FWC says the search will continue overnight into Friday morning.

The spokesperson for the Leon County Sheriff's Office says FWC has has five boats, a dive team, and a helicopter out searching.

Deputies were originally dispatched to the area of Waterfront Drive.
That was around 1:15 Wednesday afternoon.

We're told the avid fisherman went fishing around 5 a.m. His family says it was his first time fishing at Lake Iamonia.

LCSO says it found his boat. A friend told WCTV his cell phone was found as well.

We still do not know the missing man's name. His family told WCTV they're not ready to tell us.

We've only learned from people in that area that he's a 57-year-old man from Thomasville.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Leon County Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing boater near Lake Iamonia in northern Leon County.

According to the Tallahassee Online Police Statistics map, deputies were dispatched to the area of 12062 Waterfront Drive around 1:15 p.m.

According to the Leon County website, Lake Iamonia encompasses a total of 5,554 acres, is 7 miles long and up to 2 miles wide.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the lead agency for this search. There are currently three boats on the water searching for the missing person. Both FWC and LCSO have an additional boat on the way to help in the search.

Earlier Wednesday, LCSO's helicopter was used in the search, but it had to be called off because of weather conditions.

Residents in the area told WCTV the missing person is a 57-year-old Thomasville man who went fishing Wednesday morning. According to the man's family, it was 5 a.m. when the avid fisherman left to for Lake Iamonia, which he had never fished on before.

It was 7:30 a.m. the last time someone talked to him, the family said.

The sheriff's office says it found the boat the man was fishing on. Additionally, one of the missing man's friends told WCTV his cell phone was found as well.

The family said they are not ready to release the name of the missing fisherman.

WCTV has a reporter at the scene. This is a developing story and will be updated.
